REDLANDS, Calif. (Jan. 11, 2020) – A quartet of swimmers won events for the Caltech men's swimming & diving team at the University of Redlands on Saturday. The Beavers also competed against Chapman University and defeated the Panthers, 139-46.
The Caltech men have now beaten Chapman in three consecutive seasons.
Junior Adam Kogan (Clifton Park, N.Y. / Shenendehowa East) got the job done in the 200 Free, edging out his second-place opponent by less than two-tenths of a second (1:47.59). Kogan also took fourth in the 100 Free and anchored the Beavers to second place in the 400 Free Relay. Freshmen Joshua Lee (Santa Clarita, Calif. / Valencia) and Shoonhsin Li (Horseheads, N.Y. / Horseheads) dominated the 200 IM by posting a 2:00.58 and 2:01.49 to lock down first and second place. Li went on to win an event of his own, the 200 Fly, by more than seven seconds (1:54.50), coming within two seconds of his own school record. Classmate George Wythes (Solana Beach, Calif. / Torrey Pines) also got himself into the win column with a 2:00.23 in the 200 Back.
Additionally, freshmen Nathan McAlister (Reno, Nev. / Davidson Academy) and Isaac Smith (Tuscaloosa, Ala. / Northridge) represented Caltech in the 1000 Free, with McAlister finishing second thanks to a 10:28.50.
Head Coach Andy Brabson and the Beavers will resume their busy build-up to this year's SCIAC Championships next week when they travel to Pomona-Pitzer Colleges where they will go head-to-head with the Sagehens as well as Whittier College.
