Beavers Season Concludes with Loss to La Verne

ORANGE, CA – La Verne distanced themselves from Caltech with a solid third period en route to a 16-8 win on the second day of SCIAC Championships. The loss ends the Beavers season.

The Leopards were able to stay a step ahead most of the first half but couldn't shake a hard fighting Beavers team. After splitting the first two goals of the game, La Verne scored the final two goals of the opening frame in opening up a 3-1 edge.

Caltech fought back with a Chris Bradley goal 16 seconds into the second period. La Verne pushed their lead back to two goals less than a minute but a Jim Blackwood net finder with 5:53 left in the second period put the Caltech deficit at 4-3. Unfortunately for the Beavers they couldn't find the back of the net the rest of stanza as La Verne upped their lead to 7-3 with three unanswered goals.

Patric Eck started the scoring in the third quarter as Caltech tried to build momentum. La Verne was able to push their lead back to four goals when Jonathon Jarvis found the back the net with 5:39 left in the quarter. None the less, another Bradley goal brought Caltech deficit down to 8-5 just 19 seconds later. La Verne all but sealed the game by scoring five straight to push their lead to 13-5 heading into the final period.

In the final period each team scored goals as La Verne kept the Beavers at arm's length in securing the win.

Bradley had a three-goal afternoon to bring his season total to a team best 67. The first-year concludes the year by tallying a hat trick in 14 of Caltech's 21 contests. Eck and CJ Culpepper scored twice while Blackwood rounded out the scoring for the Beavers.

Ben Grabowski played a solid game in front of the cage by blocking 17 shots.
