WALNUT, Calif. (Sept. 10, 2019) – The Caltech men's water polo team showed well in spots but had its strong start to the 2019 season hit a snag Tuesday at Mt. San Antonio College.
The short-handed Beavers dealt with Mt. SAC's depth to the best of their ability and some key performances allowed the visitors to keep the game competitive throughout. Junior utility Rahul Arun (Buffalo Grove, Ill. / Adlai E Stevenson) led all Beavers with four steals, creating more possessions for the trailing Caltech offense. Arun also added a key goal and assist, one of five Caltech players to assist on goals. Junior center Steven Csaposs (Davis, Calif. / Davis) topped out at three goals for the Beavers, giving him a team-leading 15 on the young year. Meanwhile, freshman Max Bricken (Portland, Ore. / Westview) found the back of the net as well and sophomore Austin Harvard (Lake Forest, Calif. / El Toro) scored. Each player added an assist for good measure.
The two-way play of juniors John Wang and Nick Clausen (Clovis, Calif. / Clovis East) also kept the visitors competitive through the late stages of the game. Freshman goalkeeper Wei Foo (Hacienda Heights, Calif. / Troy) added 10 more saves to give him his second double-digit saves game.
"We learned we have a lot more work to do, and I am pumped about it," Head Coach Jon Bonafede said. "Our team wants to get better and we will see if they are willing to make the necessary changes for all the games we have coming up through the weekend."
Bonafede and the Beavers will look to improve their record to 4-1 on Tuesday, Sept. 11 when they travel to Chaffey College.
