PASADENA (Nov. 2, 2019) – The Caltech men's water polo team came on strong late against Whittier College, sending the Poets reeling with some well-timed goals in the middle periods.
The Beavers had a rough go of it against the SCIAC's top-ranked team initially, with the Poets' first-team players coming out firing. As the game progressed, however, Caltech grew more comfortable and began to find an offensive rhythm. Junior center Steven Csaposs (Davis, Calif. / Davis) continued his strong two-way play with four goals and three steals, while freshman Max Bricken (Portland, Ore. / Westview) got his teammates involved with a pair of assists and two goals of his own.
Classmates James Bowden (Los Angeles, Calif. / Granada Hills Charter) and Matthew Hajjar (San Jose, Calif. / The Harker School) and junior John Wang (Louisville, Ky. / Phillips Exeter Academy) rounded out the scoring for the Beavers while junior Rahul Arun (Buffalo Grove, Ill. / Adlai E Stevenson) assisted on a pair of Caltech goals. The Beavers outscored the Poets, 4-2, in the third period.
Head Coach Jon Bonafede and the Beavers will look to take their first SCIAC win of the season on Wednesday, Nov. 6 when they travel to Thousand Oaks, Calif. to meet California Lutheran University.
