REDLANDS, Calif. – In their first meet of the 2012 calendar year the Caltech swimming/diving squad competed against the University of Redlands on Saturday afternoon.
The Beavers posted a handful of top finishes as the Bullsdogs recorded team wins in both the men's (176-58) and women's (183-52) meets.
Justin Johnson won the one-meter diving competition with a score of 258.10 while finishing second in the three-meter competition. The senior scored 250 points during the event which was just behind Eli Neibuhr's tally of 278.45.
Christian Rivas won the 100 yard breaststroke by a half-second with a time of 1:03.69 which out-touched Shane Anderson (1:04.18). Peter Buhler finished second in a tight 100 yard backstroke race. The senior fell to Benjamin Ballard (56.97) by just over a second as he touched the wall in 58.10.
In the women's meet Caitlin Regan posted victory in the 100 yard freestyle by besting Joy Corona. Regan swam a season best 58.28 to beat Corona's time of 58.86. Jacqueline Masehi-Lano placed second in the 100 yard butterfly with a narrow defeat to Margo Macready. Macready hit the wall in 1:00.48 while Masehi-Lano recorded a time of 1:00.57.
During the 200 IM, Mashei-Lano posted her fifth school record with a time of 2:16.20. That mark bests the previous record of 2:18.83 set by Diane Plummer in 2007.
The Beavers continue SCIAC action as they host Cal Lutheran on Saturday morning at the Braun Pool.
