PASADENA (July 30, 2019) – The Caltech men's and women's swimming & diving teams have unveiled the schedules for the upcoming 2019-20 season.
This year's schedule will provide comparable tests to last year's in addition to opportunities for the Beavers to improve their standing against common opponents, starting with conference powerhouse Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in the home opener on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 10:30 a.m. The improved men's and women's teams will get a chance to go head-to-head with California Lutheran University later in the month when both teams compete in a championship-format double-dual meet with host Occidental College on Saturday, Nov. 23.
Both teams are set to return to the pool in January following a holiday training trip. The Beavers will compete in a tri-meet with host University of Redlands, along with Chapman University on Saturday, Jan. 11 and will swim in a similar capacity on Saturday, Jan. 18 when they travel to Whittier College to meet the Poets and defending SCIAC champions Pomona-Pitzer Colleges in the final double-dual meet on the schedule. Caltech will return home on Saturday, Jan. 25 to meet California Lutheran University at 10:30 a.m. and will conclude the month with one more meet away from its Pasadena confines. The Beavers will travel to the University of La Verne on Saturday, Feb. 1 to face a a team the men have defeated in dual competition each of the last two seasons and the women defeated last year for the first time in recent memory.
The 2019 SCIAC Championships will run from Thursday, Feb. 20 through Sunday, Feb. 23. Last year's championship meet saw the women leap to sixth place among SCIAC teams for the best-ever finish to a season in program history while the men matched their sixth-place finish from the previous year and padded their results with some additional points to continue the program's upward momentum. Caltech yielded three SCIAC champions in departing senior Brittany Percin (Lake Tahoe, Calif. / Stanford Online), junior Thomas Gallup (Houston, Texas / Phillips Exeter Academy) and rookie Nick Jasinski (Crystal Lake, Ill. / Crystal Lake Central), all of whom qualified for the NCAA Championship Meet. This year's national meet will be held from Wednesday, Mar. 18 through Saturday, Mar. 21 in Greensboro, N.C. and will feature a collection of Division III's top swimming & diving talent. Divers such as Krystin Brown (Lake Forest, Calif. / Trabuco Hills)and Nerys Huffman (Broomfield, Colo. / Peak to Peak Charter School) will have an opportunity to qualify for the national meet at this year's Diving Regionals set to take place on Feb. 28 and 29 with the location to be announced at a later time.
