Hu Garners USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors

NEW ORLEANS (July 22, 2019) – Sophomore Claire Hu (Palo Alto, Calif. / Henry M. Gunn) of the Caltech women's track and field program has been honored by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as one of 631 women from NCAA Division III who earned All-Academic honors in 2019. Collectively, the women's team achieved a 3.46 cumulative GPA, qualifying them for all-academic status per the association's criteria.

This year marks the first time Hu has earned the achievement in outdoor track & field. She is coming off a landmark sophomore season in which she improved her school-record 5000m time to 17:50.10 and added a second record when she broke program 10000m record by nearly three minutes (37:38.12). The second-year scholar athlete's latter run resulted in her second trip to the SCIAC podium in as many years. She previously garnered outdoor all-region honors back in May.

To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, student-athletes must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.30 and and either competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship or finished the regular season ranked in the national top-50 in an individual event or ranked in the national top-35 in a relay event on the official NCAA Descending Order List.
