PASADENA (Sept. 14, 2019) – The Caltech women's soccer team had a quick start to its Saturday battle with the University of California, Santa Cruz with the Beavers finding the scoreboard within the game's first seven minutes.
Junior midfielder Krystin Brown (Lake Forest, Calif. / Trabuco Hills) scored for the second time in as many games when she created her own run from just inside the center line before firing a quick shot from about 25 yards out into the left side of the net. The goal is Brown's third on the season, which puts her on pace for a career-high.
Short-handed on the back line, the Beavers also used Saturday as an opportunity to provide all three goalkeepers some experience in net. Freshman Valerie Hetherington (Bozeman, Mon. / Deerfield Academy) got the start and stopped five shots in 59 minutes. From there, classmate Eve Fine (Locust Valley, N.Y. / Friends Academy) made her 2019 debut and picked up one athletic stop in nearly 18 minutes of action. Program saves leader Kali Drango (Lake Oswego, Ore. / Lake Oswego) handled goalkeeping duties for the remainder of the game and made a pair of saves in 13 minutes.
Head Coach Ellery Gould and the Beavers will now turn their attention towards the SCIAC slate which is set to begin on Wednesday, Sept. 18 against Chapman University at 4 p.m.
