Beavers Take On a Pair of SCIAC Foes
On Saturday, the Beavers faced off against two SCIAC foes.

With both squads looking for their first SCIAC win of the season, La Verne came away with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-10, 25-13) win.
The first set was hotly contested and included a number of competitive rallies. La Verne continued to try to pull away, but each run of theirs was followed quickly by the Beavers going on a streak of their own. The Beavers had it within two points on two different occasions (10-12 and 16-18) but La Verne was the team who ended on a run, taking the opening set 25-17.
La Verne seemed to find their rhythm in the second set, and despite Caltech's Rachel Hess coming up with six assists, Caltech lost the set 25-10. The third set started out close with Caltech's Paige Logan getting a kill on an assist from Hess and Catherine Jamshidi coming up with a service ace and a block. After Jamshidi's block brought Caltech within a point at 6-5, La Verne pulled away and took the set 25-14.
Highlights for Caltech included Hess's 13 assists and Jamshidi and Logan putting up five kills each. La Verne's Brittany Yaxley had a team high 13 kills with a .571 hitting mark.
In the nightcap at ClaremontMuddScripps the Beavers fell 3-0 (25-11, 25-5, 25-11) to the nationally ranked Athenas. (Box Score)
