Men's Cross Country Second on All-Academic List

NEW ORLEANS (Feb. 15, 2019) – The Caltech men's cross country team has once again qualified for the list of NCAA Division III Men's Scholar Teams of the Year as named by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

The men's team put together a 3.72 cumulative GPA and topped out at second in the nation, trailing Massachusetts Institute of Technology by just 0.6 points. For teams to be considered for the list, they must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Meet and meet a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.10 on the traditional 4.0 scale.  Additionally, freshman Gaurav Phanse (Fremont, Calif. / Dublin) earned individual honors as well by way of his top-25 percent finish at regionals and surpassing the minimum 3.30 GPA needed to qualify.

The Beavers competed at the NCAA West Regional meet this year where Phanse led the men to an all-time best eighth-place finish and broke the four-year-old program 8K record originally set by Aditya Bhagavathi on Nov. 22, 2014.
