NEW ORLEANS (Aug. 27, 2019) – The Caltech women's cross country team has earned its highest regional ranking under Head Coach Ben Raphelson and will begin the 2019 season ranked ninth in the NCAA Division III West region according to preseason rankings courtesy of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The women's team's placement in the region marks a four-spot improvement on its finish within the region at last year's regional championships. If the Beavers are able to finish the season with their current regional ranking, it will mark the team's highest regional finish of all time. Additionally, the Beavers are ranked fifth among SCIAC teams, coming in behind Pomona-Pitzer Colleges, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges, the University of Redlands and Occidental College in that order after finishing 2018 in the same position for the team's highest place of finish in the SCIAC since the conference expanded.
Raphelson and the Beavers will kick off the season this weekend at the 4.5K Redlands Invitational on Saturday, Aug. 31 at 8 a.m.
