LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. (Sept. 2, 2019) – Junior Claire Hu (Palo Alto, Calif. / Henry M. Gunn) has been named SCIAC Cross Country Athlete of the Week for her conference-leading peformance at the 2019 Redlands Invitational over the weekend.
The achievement is the first SCIAC weekly award of her career and the first of the season for Caltech athletics. Hu led the Beavers in an all-around dominant showing as the Caltech women collectively won a race for the first time in recent memory. Hu and her teammates showed heightened discipline on the 4.5km course, displaying early patience before asserting themselves with some key late moves. Individually, the junior took second place overall (first among Division III competitors) and finished just four seconds behind the overall winner from LA Harbor College.
Hu and the Beavers will look to make further strides when they return to action in two weeks at the UCR Invitational in Riverside on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 7:30 a.m.
